A 24-year-old Tarkio, Missouri, man suffered serious injuries in a crash Wednesday, August 26, 2026, in Atchison County. The wreck took place at 7:50 a.m. on U.S. Hwy. 136, .5 miles east of L Avenue three miles east of Rock Port, Missouri. A 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer was travelling eastbound on U.S. Hwy. 136 and rounded a curve. The driver’s vision was obscured by fog and the Lancer travelled off the south side of the roadway. The driver overcorrected and the vehicle skidded across the highway and travelled off the north side of the road. The passenger side of the vehicle impacted an electric utility pole and overturned. The Lancer came to rest upright facing east off the north side of Hwy. 136.

The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered serious injuries and was transported  to Community Hospital-Fairfax in Fairfax, Missouri, by an Atchison-Holt ambulance. The Mitsubishi Lancer was totaled and towed from the scene by Double M Towing.

The accident was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. T.L. Shupe, who was assisted by the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office and the Atchison-Holt Ambulance Service.
