The East Atchison junior high and high school cross country teams finally got to run on a nice day at the Duane Kimble Invite, hosted by Benton High School, in St. Joseph, Missouri. This event, held Tuesday, September 22, 2026, was EA’s biggest meet yet, with the Wolves and Lady Wolves going up against Belton, Bishop LeBlond, Benton, Cameron, Center, Dekalb, Faith Christian Academy, Lathrop, Maysville, Mid-Buchanan, Mound City, Plattsburgh, Pleasant Hill, Polo, Princeton, Savannah, Smithville, South Holt, South Nodaway, St. Joseph Christian, Union Star, Winston, and Lincoln College Prep.

The high school Lady Wolves’ team won the meet, just beating out Savannah. In doing so, they also broke the school team record. Every runner on the team ran a season best. Mikayla Windham, Delaney Oswald, Mackenzie Oswald, Taya Windham, Sophie Hegstrom, Andrew Romesser, Alex Wintz, Hunter Moor, and Scarlett Gladman also ran their all-time personal bests.

High school varsity girls (top 25 medal) – 6th, Mikayla Windham, 21:52.8; 7th, Taya Windham, 22:22.1; 9th, Delaney Oswald, 22:48.3; 12th, Mackenzie Oswald, 23:40.2; 29th, Sophie Hegstrom, 25:10.4; 30th, Bella Bywater, 25:17.5; 34th, Gracie Walker, 25:38.6

High school junior varsity girls (top 20 medal) – 11th, Rhoni Caudill, 29.38.3; and 12th, Macy Stepp 29:52.5

Junior high girls 2 miler (top 10 medal) – 2nd, Lyla Walker, 15:05.4; 7th, Jaina Murray, 17:10.8; and 31st, Scartlett Gladman, 23:04.3

High school varsity boys (top 25 medal) – 38th, Mason Kingery, 20:38.3; 54th, Andrew Romesser, 21:59.5; 64th, Owen Vette, 24:25.8; 72nd, Alex Wintz 26:51.5

Junior high boys 2 miler (top 10 medal) – 58th, Hunter Moor, 20:20.2; and 72nd, Emmett Umbarger, 33:03.6
