Corn kernels may sprout under rainy conditions and warm temperatures. Sometimes upright ears will trap water, the kernels absorb water and kernels germinate. If this occurs, it is generally with corn at or less than 20 percent moisture and black layer.
If you are facing this situation, be sure to dry corn to 14% moisture and if possible dry at high temperatures to kill the sprout. You should scout fields and determine which fields should be prioritized for harvest.
Corn should be screened to remove fines. Monitor grain for hot spots and potential molding and for additional sprouting.
You may want to core the grain bin by removing grain which will remove the fines from center of the bin.
