The November 19, 2018, Sorosis meeting was called to order by President Debbie Johnson. Roll call was “My favorite Thanksgiving recipe.” The answers involved a lot of cranberries, pumpkin and dressing, etc.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The treasurer and corresponding secretary reports were given. A letter of appreciation was sent to the Methodist Church. Memorials were given to the Methodist and Baptist Churches in memory of Mary Anne Pennel, a Sorosis member, and Ferd Ray, husband of member Leona Ray. Reports were approved as given.
New Business: The after prom letter was discussed and action on it was postponed until the next meeting. A motion was made by Judy and seconded by Pam. All approved. A few minutes were spent making corrections in our Sorosis booklet.
Critic report from Judy was a quote from Oprah Winfrey, “Be thankful for what you have, You’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have you will never, ever have enough.” Since our previous meeting we have lost one of our members. We chose this time to think of Mary Anne Pennel. For a few moments we bowed our heads and remembered a dear friend and club member. We will all miss her very much.
The Bon Mot and Collect were read and the meeting was turned over to Hostess Judy for our program. The program was “Taking care of the whole body.” Of course the first things are getting exercise and eating right. When Judy got to the hands she brought out a cute little turkey made with Oreos and candy corn. She then proceeded to teach us how to make the turkey with our hands. There was a lot of discussion about how much candy corn and Oreos we could eat until Judy brought out another bag of candy. There were some really good birds and some not so good birds. Mine fell in the not so good category. We then moved on to the exercise-your-brain category. She used a trivia game to test our memory and was pleasantly surprised by how much some of the members could remember. It was a lot of fun and we had our turkey to take home with us. We were then served a really good dessert, autumn spice cake. The recipe was requested by several. After an afternoon of fun with friends the meeting was adjourned.
