In the early 60’s a small group started the process of forming what is now known as Charity Lake, which is apart of Brickyard Hill Conservation Area. 1966 saw the completion of Charity Lake through the many hours of construction and numerous donations.
On Saturday, June 4, 2016 a rededication ceremony combined with celebrating 50 years was held in front of the new sign honoring many of those who helped with the construction of Charity Lake. Over 65 area residents were in attendance.
Ronnie Bradley welcomed everyone and gave a brief history of the construction. Pointing to the bluff, Ronnie explained that they took five bull dozers and started pushing the side of the bluff down. At the base of the dam, he said that at one point it was 35 feet deep, but the state didn’t like that so they raised it to 22 feet. The lake is spring fed.
The rededication idea started about a year and a half ago when Ronnie went about seeing what it would take to replace the sign showing the main contributors to the lake’s construction. The sign used to be on display near the boat ramp. After many phone calls and leg work done by Conservation Agent Eric Abbott and Connie Minter there is a new sign on display.
Following the ribbon cutting everyone was invited to eat and visit.
Special thanks go to Joey Bradley for cooking, Connie Minter and Ronnie Bradley for seeing this project through and to the Conservation Agents Eric Abbott and Russ Shifflet for bringing fishing poles and bait for kids to go fishing.
