Rock Port Rotary & First Christian Church: Shoes for Orphan Souls
Vickie Cook from First Christian Church assisted the Rock Port Rotarians on April 21, 2016 as they completed the packing of Shoes for Orphan Souls. The official totals for the Rock Port Community in 2016: socks 236 pairs; shoes donated by church members 224; shoes purchased with Rotary money 293; total shoes 517. The collection from Northwest Missouri Rotary and their supporting communities will send the new shoes, socks, shoe laces, and mailing funds to Buckner’s Shoes for Orphan Souls.
This year the shoes and socks will be sent to Guatemala; one of the poorest countries in Latin America and has a high number of children involved in sex trafficking. About 75 percent of the population falls below the poverty line, making it difficult to provide for daily needs. Buckner Guatemala also offers ongoing ministry in the areas of foster care, preventative health care, child care, residential care and social services. There are thousands of children who live in orphanages in Guatemala.
Pastor Rodney has been involved and chaired the ‘Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls’ shoe drive for Rock Port Rotary for twelve years. It would not be possible to help orphans without heartfelt commitments to this continued shoe drive by its community sponsors such as: First Christian Church, Rock Port Rotary and other people in our community. Thank you for having a heart that reaches out with gifts of love help orphans in great need.
