With the assistance of Alexi Stoner, the Mad Scientist made a ping pong ball float using a hair dryer.
The Memorial Building was filled with laughter and learning as children from preschool to sixth grade gathered to witness the Mad Science presentation, held on June 16. Sponsored by the Atchison County Library, this event gives kids the opportunity to learn about science through hands-on experiments and lessons.
This year the theme was, On Your Mark…Get Set…READ, Rube Goldberg Style. Reading Rube Goldberg style involves a Mad Scientist who brought to life an interactive Rube Goldberg Machine that set off hilarious chain reactions with a simple goal in mind: to open a book. Before the big finale of watching the machine go off, the Mad Scientist taught the children about density, conductors and the use of machines in everyday life using experiments that entertained and amazed all.
At the end of the show the Mad Science Program, out of Kansas City and S.W. Mo., donated a book about Rube Goldberg to the Atchison County Library. Librarian Rebecca Adams graciously accepted the book and closed the morning with her thanks to the children in attendance and to the Mad Science Program for putting this on.
