Two PAR Electrical Contractors, Inc., employees were seriously injured Thursday, June 23, after they were shocked while working on power lines near State Route PP in rural Nodaway County. The employees were injured while replacing an electrical power pole. Preliminary information provided by the Nodaway Country Sheriff’s Office stated the electrical workers were injured at approximately 11:30 a.m. when the pole they were working on contacted overhead power lines. The lines were carrying around 69,000 volts. The two workers were transported by helicopter to different hospitals, one in Kansas City, Kansas, the other in Omaha, Nebraska.
Headquartered in Kansas City, PAR Electrical Contractors is an outsourcing company that provides installation and maintenance of electrical transmission and distribution lines. The accident caused a power outage throughout Nodaway County and Atchison County for a brief period of time on Thursday. The U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Kansas Ci­ty Area Office has opened an investigation.
