A modern $470,000 elementary school building will be voted on by people in the Rock Port R-II school district. The proposed site for the school is in the southwest part of Rock Port just west of Highway 111 across from the city light plant.

July 1, 1976
New officers for Rock Port Rotary International took office July 1. Those officers include Dr. Gary Powell, president, who is replacing Jim Lewis; Keith Stepp, vice-president; and Jim Allen Jr., board member. Carl Kleppinger, chairman of the board of directors at Citizens Bank and Dr. Jeffrey Powell optometrist are also new members this year.

July 10, 1986
Melissa Jolene Bokoskie, age 4, has been selected as a participant in the 1986 Nebraska Little Star Pageant. Melissa is the daughter of John and Marian Bokoskie, Murray, Nebraska. Melissa’s grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lingerfelt.

July 10, 1996
Casey’s General Store showed appreciation for their many customers with a Customer Appreciation Day. The employees dressed as clowns and pumped gas for the customers. A drawing was also held for many exciting prizes.
Ermal Wilson, Vice-President of Citizens Bank & Trust of Rock Port, has recently completed the 1996 Agriculture Lending School. Completion of this course assists students in developing skills which allow them to better serve their customers’ multiple financial needs.

July 13, 2006
The doors to the theatre in the Atchison County Memorial Building reopened to audiences in March. Air conditioning was installed in the theatre auditorium last summer. Nine performances of “The Wizard of Oz” are scheduled.
