Indian Cave State Park offers the ultimate mid-summer camping event – a Christmas in July themed weekend.

The holiday season goes by much too quickly for most people. But families who come to Indian Cave State Park on July 30 will have another chance to celebrate the holidays with the third annual “Campfire Christmas in July”.
Campers will be decorating their campsites trying to win the decorating contest and the chance to win some free camping. Scheduled events are a snow ball toss, toilet seat horseshoes, make and take Christmas crafts, decorated hayrack rides and face painting. And of course, what Christmas celebration would be complete without a visit from Santa Claus? Kids can visit with Santa and make their early Christmas wishes known. Santa will not be wearing his winter outfit, but he will be wearing his summer suit complete with flip flops. The elves will be on the grounds with treats for the kids and the perfect opportunity to capture that special photo for your Christmas cards.
Other events scheduled are a “Jingle Bell Junk and Craft Market”. This is a great opportunity to start early on getting the perfect gift for your family and friends. Other fun events for the entire family will be a reindeer pellet round-up (aka candy and prize egg hunt), antler ring toss, horse-drawn sleigh rides with the proceeds benefiting a local ‘Jingle-Bell Ride’ which delivers toys to local youth at Christmas. A team competition for the ‘Yule Log Quest’ will be a fun family event. Continue the holiday magic and watch the evening movie Dr. Suess’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” being shown at the outdoor amphitheater at 9:15 p.m.
Other events held all day Saturday and Sunday will be horse trail rides and living history demonstrations. Friday evening the outdoor movie will be “It’s a Spongebob Christmas”.
If the kids get too hot they can cool off under the giant water sprinkler or nibble on a snow-cone. Arley’s Food Truck will be serving their delicious brisket burgers and cold drinks to help keep you cool.
A half-price youth permit drawing will be held with the winner announced at the conclusion of the day. A Nebraska park entry permit is required.
