July 21, 1966- A fantastic 114 degrees was recorded Monday on Rock Port’s official thermometer at the light plant. Week long temperatures in the 90’s and 100’s drove Rock Port citizens off the streets to seek what comfort was available from fans and air conditioners.

July 8, 1976- Waterworks contrasted with fireworks when the Rock Port Volunteer Fire Department hosted a water fight east of the Baptist church. Men’s and women’s teams from Missouri and Iowa aimed their water hoses at a red, white and blue metal barrel suspended above the street on a cable. The team which successfully pushed the barrel to the other team’s side won cash prizes.

July 17, 1986- Freeman Health Care Services Inc. held their grand opening and open house Saturday, July 12. On hand for the ribbon cutting were Carla Jenkins, Billie DeBuhr, Helen Freeman, Ella Freeman, Connie Lewis, Chris Husing, Joe Farley, Doug Palmer and Julie Clanton.

July 18, 1996- The Rock Port twelve year old Summer Jam Boys Basketball team will have the opportunity to play against the best twelve year olds in the state of Missouri when they travel to Columbia for the “Show-Me Games.” Members of this team included: Ben Gebhards, Kaylen Smith, Jay Hunter, Hyatt Haynes, Nate Bunton, Jared Meyerkorth, Brent Dahlin, Colby Roup and Nick Gray.

July 20, 2006-  A 1998 Ford Van, carrying 11 passengers, wrecked on I-29 northbound at the 114.2 mile marker, 4 miles north of Rock Port. The van was totaled and towed by Benefiel’s. The accident occurred as the northbound vehicle’s left rear tire blew out causing the vehicle to travel off the road. When it struck a sign, the vehicle overturned.
