It takes a certain, special characteristic to enable a person to give his or her time simply to help others. Volunteers are the most important resource a community can have. The ability of people to work willingly together for the betterment of their community and themselves is a valuable resource that is often taken for granted.
Community service takes many different forms in our small town. We see a lot of our young people and adults give their time to all different activities; from ringing the Salvation Army bell at Christmas time, to coaching elementary sports teams. No matter how small the task may seem, volunteer work continues to contribute to the success of our communities.
One of the most important service opportunities we have year round here in Rock Port is Meals on Wheels. Sponsored by the Rock Port Senior Center, Meals on Wheels delivers standard meals to folks in the community who are unable to leave their homes. The Senior Center pays attention to and meets the dietary needs of each individual customer, which sets them apart from any other meal service in our community.
