The Bender family farm, near Oregon, Missouri, will be one of many recognized by the Holt County Historical Society at the “First Sunday” program. Family members still own this farm that was purchased by early day settler Elisa Bender in 1910. The program will be held Sunday, August 7, at 2:00 p.m. at the Society’s Methodist Church Museum in Fortescue, Missouri.
To commemorate Holt County’s 175 years Society board member, Cindy Kenny, Maitland, Missouri, along with her sister, Francis Harbin, Maryville, Missouri, and Bill Medzgar, Graham, Missouri, will share photos and histories of early day pioneers who settled on farmland over 100 years ago that is still owned by the same family. Additional information is welcomed by calling Kenny at 660-254-3419.
The Society’s Methodist Church Museum, located at 115 Ada Street in Fortescue is open for visitors on the first Sunday of each month from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Various Holt County displays will be shared, with a special historical presentation at 2:00 p.m. There is no charge.
