The town of Fairfax received help from all over Atchison County when a storm hit the community Thursday, July 7, 2016. Last week, the Mound City First Christian Church came to town to help as part of their mission program. The “On A Mission 2016” team chose to stay close to home this year, travelling to Fairfax to help residents with the storm clean-up. They arrived in town July 25, and went right to work clearing brush and debris, raking yards, painting and doing carpentry work. More than 15 different residents were helped the four days they were in town. The Fairfax community served the mission group by providing lunch each day. The Mound City group hosted a community picnic in the Fairfax City Park July 28 as a time of celebration that there were no major injuries as a result of the storm. A movie, “War Room,” was shown in the park at dusk.
