Karen A. Herron, the daughter of Henry P. and Naomi Caroline (Voltmer) Schnegelberger, was born May 20, 1939, in Hamburg, Iowa. She attended school in Nishnabotna and Corning, Missouri, graduating from Craig High School, Craig, Missouri, in 1957. Upon graduation, Karen attended one year of business school in St. Joseph, Missouri. Karen then returned to her home in Nishnabotna and for five years was employed by the Atchison County ASCS office in Rock Port.
On July 10, 1960, Karen was united in marriage to Marvin L. Herron at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Craig. For 56 years they made their home on the family farm north of Rock Port and became the parents of two daughters, Valerie and Thea.
Karen was a true farmer’s wife, helping with the daily farm chores as well as raising and caring for her two daughters. She was an excellent baker, decorating cakes for birthdays, weddings, and numerous school events for over 25 years. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening, tending to her flower garden, African Violets and her Koi fish pond. She also loved her Pomeranian dog, Rusty. Karen was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church, in Corning. Karen passed away Monday, July 18, 2016, in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 77. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port. Interment followed in Grange Hall Cemetery, Rock Port. Rev. Franz Brandenberg officiated.
Besides her parents, Karen was preceded in death by brothers-in law, Don Naiberk and Willard Herron, and sisters-in-law, Louise Herron and Dollie Mae Herron. Survivors include husband, Marvin Herron, Rock Port; daughters, Valerie Duncan and husband, Bruce, Rock Port, and Thea Knox and husband, David, Weston, Missouri; grandchildren, Talya Culbertson and husband, Sean, Ogden, Iowa, Eric Duncan, Rock Port, Karen Knox and David M. Knox, Weston, Missouri; three sisters, Janice Naiberk, Omaha, Nebraska, Myrna Whigham and husband, Keith, and Lois Schnegelberger, all of Ames, Iowa; brother-in-law, Gene Herron and wife, Kathy, Rock Port; and numerous nieces and nephews.
