The Fairfax Optimist Club selected Ted and Bud Simmons to be parade marshals of this year’s Fairfax Fair Parade.
Ted and Bud are owners and operators of the Simmons MFA Service in Fairfax. They operate a full-service filling station and tire services six days a week.
In October 1975 Ted leased the business from MFA Oil Company. MFA had purchased the station, known then as Moore Brothers Service Station, from Charles L. Moore. Ted had been employed by the Moores for five years previous to the sale of MFA. His wife, Vickie handled the bookkeeping at this time. Bud joined the company in 1981.
In recent years Ted and Bud added a service truck to their business. Bud and boss (Norman) make service calls while Ted keeps the business going in town. They also mow lawns and plow snow in the winter, along with operating the station.
There have been several employees throughout the years. They have worked with the school-to-work program, and Calvin Graves, Tyson Miller, Daltyn Burke and Troy Simmons were among the young men who worked at the station.
Ted and Vickie have three sons. Aaron and his wife, Bambi, live in Fairfax, and Aaron works at Federal Mogul in Maryville. Cole also lives in Fairfax and works at Community Hospital-Fairfax. Troy and his wife, Michaela, live in Olathe, Kansas, and Troy works at Home Depot. Ted and Vickie also have three granddaughters: Pasleigh, Kinley, a sophomore, and Rylie, a sixth grader. Today, Vickie is employed at the Fairfax R-3 School.
Ted is a past member of the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department, Optimist Club and was a former Boy Scout leader.
Bud and Lyn have two sons, Jesse and Nick. Jesse resides in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and he is a retail development executive at Clinique. Nick lives in Fairfax and attends Park University, majoring in business. He works full time at Trail’s End. Lyn has been employed in the Rock Port school system for 30 years as the fifth grade teacher.
Bud does most of his business with the use of a cell phone or online ordering. He enjoys being able to help his customers out on the farm. He was a member of the Fairfax Fire Department for 20 years. He enjoys mowing yards.
