The Atchison County Farm Bureau held its annual meeting August 4, 2016, at the Velma Houts Fair Building in Rock Port, Missouri. Torrey Pines of Tarkio, Missouri, catered the dinner. There were 48 people who attended.
Matt Schlueter, board president, welcomed all attendees and introduced this year’s guest speaker. Ben Travlos, Ashland, Missouri, is a member of the Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council. He expressed his love for soccer, which he said can actually be related to ag policy. While explaining this relation Travlos said, “Those moments in which we ‘score,’ those are the moments that are glorious. Those are the moments in which we realize our hard work has been worth it.”
Travlos completed his presentation by informing the meeting’s attendants about the different wins and losses the soybean and biodiesel agricultural areas have seen lately. He strongly believes that all sides of agriculture need to come together as a team if they wish to continue the growth and improvement of all agriculture departments.
The meeting continued with the approval of last year’s minutes, followed by the treasurer’s report. President Schlueter finished the business side of the meeting by explaining the process of the approval of the resolutions.
The meeting adjourned after door prizes were awarded.
