As part of the ongoing 2016 Speakers Series, Brownville Fine Arts Association will present the enactment of “Promise in a New Land” by Cherrie Beam-Callaway on Friday, August 19. The program will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Schoolhouse Art Gallery in Brownville, Nebraska.
Cherrie is a native Nebraska storyteller with the Nebraska Humanities Council.
For this program, she will be in character as “Mariah Monahan,” an immigrant to Nebraska from Ireland in the mid-19th century. Based on historical fact, Mariah captivates the audience in a dramatic rendition. You will be transported in time, sailing the ocean, riding the wagon trail, feeling the loneliness and fighting prairie fires. Laugh and cry with stories of successful crops, dancing, hard work, losing loved ones and, most importantly, becoming American.
