The 36th Annual Gene Kent and Melvin Livengood Memorial Fishing Derby took place on Saturday, August 13, and Sunday, August 14, 2016, on the Missouri River. The 67 participants working in 25 teams gathered for the start of the derby at Thurnau Landing west of Craig, Missouri, before taking off. The group caught 858 pounds and 1 ounce of carp and 634 pounds and 4 ounces of catfish, compared to 54 fishermen and 20 teams catching 374 pounds of catfish and 162 pounds of carp in 2015.
The weather was ideal for fishing on both days. After enough fish were caught for the Sunday evening fish fry, the remainder of the caught fish were weighed and returned to the Missouri River.
