On September 19, 2016, immediately following the Jr. High football game the Junior Varsity East Atchison and Rock Port teams began warming up at Dave Palmeiro Field on Monday, September 19. East Atchison started the contest receiving the Blue Jays’ kick off. Both teams traded possessions with no score until 5:27 left in the quarter when Rock Port’s Aaron Lawrence scored. The 2 point conversion was good and the Jays led 8-0. This score stood at the end of the quarter as the defense battle was on between the two rival teams.
The second quarter came with a switch of end zones and the Blue Jays’ Brock Martin punched one in for 6 points with Evan Elam adding the extra 2 to the scoreboard. With 7:48 left in the 2nd quarter, Rock Port was up 16-0. The Wolves answered with a score by Bywater and a 2 point conversion by Baker to bring the score to 16-8 with 1:11 left on the clock. This score would take the teams into halftime.
The start of the third quarter saw the Wolves kicking off to the Blue Jays. Danial Hart returned the kickoff return for a Rock Port touchdown and added the 2 point conversion. Rock Port took a 24-8 advantage with 9:49 left in the third. Daniel Hart struck again with 4:19 left in the quarter. Alex Burke tagged on the extra 2 giving Rock Port a 32-8 lead. This score would remain at the end of the third.
The fourth quarter started with the Rock Port on EA’s 10 yard line threatening to score. Caleb Greene pushed the ball in the end zone with Elam’s attempt at the extra 2 points being broken up by East Atchison. The Wolves answered quickly with another score by Bywater. However, the extra points didn’t follow. The score now 38-14 Rock Port with 6:35 left in the competition. Both teams continued to battle back and forth defensively until Bywater broke into the end zone for a third time on the night, adding the 2 point conversion to the score. This made the score 38-22 Jays with 3:07 on the game clock. With under one minute left to play, Elam adds another 6 to the board. The 2 point conversion was no good. Final game score was Rock Port 44, East Atchison 22.
