The William White Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution meeting was called to order by Regent, Annamarie Hunziger, at Breadeaux Pizza in Mound City, with 10 members and two guests present. The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and the national anthem were recited and sung by all, led by Donna Kunkel. Prayer was given by Karen Fischer, Chaplain. Fried chicken and assorted pizzas were served for lunch.
Annamarie Hunziger, Regent, gave the program on Constitution Week. This is the 61st annual Constitution Week observance. The first was observed on June 14, 1955. The tradition of celebrating the Constitution was started many years ago by the DAR. In 1955, DAR petitioned Congress to set aside September 17-23 annually to be dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week. The resolution was later adopted by the U.S. Congress and signed into law on August 2, 1956, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. She also read an article about the Preamble, which is a 55 word document. The purpose of the Liberty Bell is to symbolize American Independence. Everyone brought a bell to ring at the end of the program to commemorate Constitution Week.
The DAR ritual was completed, reciting the American’s Creed, Preamble of Allegiance to the State of Missouri and Preamble to the Constitution of the United States of America.
Chaplain Fischer gave a short devotion.
The President General’s Message was read by Regent Hunziger.
The National Defense Report was given by Susan Rippen. She read an explanation on the purpose of the “Fallen Service Honor Table.” It represents members of the service no longer here.
The Constitution Minute was read by Ruth Rother. The Indian Minute was read by Carolyn Fansher. No women’s issues were read this month.
The minutes of the May 3, meeting were reviewed and approved.
The Treasurer’s report was reviewed and filed for audit.
The chapter by-laws will be reviewed and updated prior to the next meeting. The changes will be voted on at that time.
The District meeting will be held September 23 at Park Baptist Church in Brookfield, Missouri.
Donna Kunkel is a new applicant and attended this month’s meeting. Karen Miller’s papers have been sent in.
After all old and new business items were discussed and brag time, Regent Hunziger adjourned the meeting.
