In week seven the Jays traveled to Ludlow, Missouri to take on Southwest Livingston. Both teams were undefeated going in to the contest.
SW Livingston won the toss and elected to receive. Following the kick-off the Wildcats started on their 25 yard line. On the first play from the line of scrimmage the Wildcats took the ball up the middle 55 yards for a touchdown, two point conversion was good.
The Wildcats kicked off putting the ball in the end zone for a touch back giving the Jays the ball on the 15. Four plays later the Jays were forced to punt.
With a good punt by Caden Linthicum SWL had the ball on their 20 yard line. Following an illegal motion penalty the Wildcats started at the 15. Two plays later running back Austin Johnson went off guard for 56 yard to score the second touchdown, two point conversion was no good making the score 14-0 Wildcats.
Starting on the 22 yard line, following the kickoff, quarterback Jase Hughes hit Tyler Jones on a curl route, Tyler was able to get the first down. The Jays were able to move the ball down to the Wildcat 12 yard line on a pass from Hughes to Jones, before turning the ball over on downs.
Deep in their own territory the Wildcats moved the ball out to mid field before running back Johnson took it to the house. The touchdown was called back on a holding penalty. This was followed by a quarterback keeper carrying the ball to the Jay’s 11 yard line before being knocked out of bounds. The Jays defense came together to hold the Wildcats and took over on downs.
With the running game not working, quarterback Hughes took to the air hitting end Ryan Dewhirst, who took the ball to midfield. On the next play Hughes hit Jones for Rock Port’s first touchdown on the night. Two point attempt was no good.
SW Livingston was able to run two plays for little or no gain before ending the first quarter.
The Wildcats with a series of plays to running back Johnson moved the ball down the field before Johnson was able to reach pay dirt on a three yard run. Two point conversion was good, giving the Wildcats a 22-6 lead over the Jays.
With the passing game working following the Wildcat kickoff quarterback Hughes hit Caden Linthicum over the middle. Linthicum took the ball in for six points and the two point attempt was good by Jones. Making the score 22-14.
Following Makings’ kickoff, the Wildcats brought the ball out two the 25 yard line. With a good defensive stand and a penalty, the Jays forced the Wildcats to punt the ball. Once again the passing game was on as Hughes hit Dewhirst, who scrambled 62 yards taking the ball down to the 20 yard line before being brought down. Once again the Jays were hit with penalties moving them back to midfield before punting the ball.
With seconds left before halftime the Wildcats tried a screen pass to running back Johnson which came up short ending the first half 22-14.
Rock Port received the ball to start the second half. Hughes wasted no time going back to the passing game hitting Jones on a quick curl route, Jones scrambled to the Wildcat 28 yard line. After two failed running attempts and a penalty, Hughes connected with end Ryan Dewhirst who took the ball to the 10 yard line. Hughes hit running back Gavin Abbott on a quick out moving the ball to the five. Hughes then connected once again with Jones for six. Two point conversion was no good making the score 22-20.
Following a kickoff to the end zone Noah Makings the Wildcats started their next drive on the 15. On the shoulder of running back Johnson the Wildcats moved the ball down the field to 20 yard line, before being hit by Caden Linthicum, Trenton Oswald and Noah Makings causing a fumble. Makings recovered.
During the next play Hughes goes to the air to hit wide open Tyler Jones who walked in for six. Two point conversion was good giving the Jays the first lead of the night 22-28. Ending the third quarter.
On the next series the Jays defense came up big with an interception by defensive back Caden Linthicum.
After a couple of plays and a penalty the Jays were forced to punt.
The Wildcats punched in a TD to score to tie the game at 28-28, two point conversion was no good.
The Jays set out to break the tie, but were unable to find success. Returning possession to the Wildcats.
From their own 30 yard line the Wildcats moved the ball down the field taking it to the 2 yard line with a broken play by the Wildcats quarterback Caleb Eddins. Johnson punched it in for six and the two point attempt was no good, making the score 34-28. This touchdown would seal the deal as the Jays tried to move the ball in the air but came up short each time.
The Jays come home with their first loss on the season. This Friday they face an even tougher team as they play South Holt/ Nodaway Holt who beat SW Livingston earlier in the season.
The Jays rushed for a total of 17 yard, while they passed for 397.
Leading tacklers were: Ryan Dewhirst 7, Tyler Jones 6, Trenton Oswald, Carter Ottmann, Quentin Carder, Gavin Abbott all had 5 and Noah Makings 4.
