Tarkio High School FFA fundraiserThe Tarkio FFA Chapter will be giving away an American Farmer Edition Ruger 10-22. Only 3,000 were manufactured worldwide. The gun is worth $500. Tickets are 1 for $5 or 5 for $20. The gun will be given away on Friday, October 14, 2016. If you are interested in purchasing tickets, call 660-736-4118 ext 4200 or stop by the school. Funds raised will be used for FFA activities and trips.

Colin Joesting and Troy Wennihan selected to National FFA Chorus

Colin Joesting and Troy Wennihan, members of the Tarkio FFA Chapter, will be on stage and in the spotlight October 19-22 during the 2016 National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis. Joesting, a junior and the son of Steve and Julie Joesting, and Wennihan, a sophomore and the son of Mike and Dena Wennihan, has been selected to be a member of the National FFA Chorus.
The National FFA Chor­us will perform several times during the national convention and expo, adding excitement and motivation to the sessions through their music. Joesting and Wennihan will join fellow chorus members in Indianapolis for rehearsals three days before the convention and expo begins. The National FFA Chorus is sponsored by Dow Agrosciences as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.

Cross country team runs at Rock PortThe East

Atchison Cross Country Team competed in the Rock Port High School Cross Country Invitational Tuesday, September 27, 2016. The course is laid out on the Rock Port Golf Course and the City Park. It was beautiful day in the 80’s, yet warm for racing. The following schools were represented by runners: Rock Port, East Atchison, Mound City, St. Joseph Christian, Nebraska City, South Nodaway, Clarinda, Mid-Buchanan, Southwest Iowa, Clarinda Academy, North Andrew, Falls City Public and West Nodaway.

FCCLA hosting Zombie Walk-Tarkio FCCLA chapter is hosting a Zombie Walk benefit for Jessica Lindsay October 22, at 5 p.m. The walk will start at the Heartland Rec Center parking lot and go around the Tarkio college campus. Prizes will be awarded for first place finishers and best dressed zombie for those who want to walk in costume.
The walk will cost $20 to participate, and $30 if you would like to purchase a t-shirt. Please register and pay by October 14 at the Tarkio High School office if you would like a t-shirt. Registration is welcome the day of the event, however shirts will not be available.

FCCLA sandwich fundraiser- The annual FCCLA sandwich fundraiser will be held October 20, during parent/ teacher conferences. Chapter members will prepare and serve meals from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the high school gym lobby. Order forms and delivery will be available for those unable to make it to the school. All meals will include a made-to-order sandwich with toppings, chips, carrots, cookies, and a bottle of water.
The meals will be available for a free will donation to help defray the cost of the chapter’s competitive events (STAR Events), assist with community service projects, purchase chapter awards, and other chapter activities.
The Tarkio FCCLA looks forward to serving the community and thanks you for your support of their only chapter fundraiser.

Junior high volleyball team wins first place in tournamentThe East Atchison Junior High volleyball team competed in St. Gregory’s Volleyball Tournament September 24, 2016, at Maryville, Missouri. The Lady Wolves won all their matches and claimed first place in the tournament.
EA defeated South Page 25-18 in their first set. South Page won the second set 12-24, and the Lady Wolves won the third set, 15-13.
