Albert Junior Jochim, the son of Albert Sheldon and Mabel Berniece (Haughton) Jochim was born May 22, 1930, in Watson, Missouri. Junior or “Honk” as he was affectionately known graduated from Watson High School in 1949.
In 1951, Junior enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country during the Korean War. He served on the destroyer, U.S.S. Brown as a Gunners Mate 3rd class. This ship sailed from the States to Japan and back every six months.
On March 28, 1969, Junior was united in marriage to Sue Bailey at his parents’ home in Watson. They made their home on the Watson bottom, raised their two sons Jeff and Alan and farmed for over 35 years. In 2004 Junior and Sue moved to Platte City, Missouri, to live closer to their son Jeff and his family.
Junior was thankful to be a farmer and loved working the Watson soil and raising cattle. He spent many hours in a tractor with his sons, which created precious memories still held by them today. He also enjoyed playing golf and traveling with Sue. Honk was a man full of joy and always had a smile on his face. He passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at Hillview Nursing and Rehabilitation, Platte City, at the age of 86. Funeral Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 14, 2016 at the Rock Port United Methodist Church. Interment followed in Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port. Services were conducted by Rev. Bruce Jeffries. Military rites were under the auspices of Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49, Rock Port.
Junior was past Commander and member of the Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49, Rock Port. A member of the Rock Port Golf and Country Club, the Shiloh Springs Golf Club, Platte City and former member of the Rock Port Lion’s Club. He formerly served on the Atchison County Soil and Water Conservation District Board, High Creek Drainage Ditch Board, Atchison County COOP Board and as a Watson Volunteer Fireman.
Beside his parents, Junior was preceded in death by brother, Donald D. Jochim, sisters-in-law, Joan and Mary Ellen Jochim, nephew, David Jochim and two nieces, Beth Shannahan and Stacey Fritz. Survivors include his wife, Sue Jochim, Platte City; sons, Jeffery Jochim and his wife, Dawn, Platte City, and Alan Jochim and his wife, Michelle, Denham Springs, Louisiana; three grandchildren, Emily Rae Anne (Adam) Morrison, Emma Elizabeth and Mason Blake Jochim; two brothers, James Everett and his wife, Jean, Rock Port, and Marvin Eugene Jochim, Windsor, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.
