Hello, Blue Jay Nation. It is hard to believe that we have completed one quarter of the 2016-17 school year. The students of Rock Port R-II are being challenged in the classroom and they are excelling in competition on the court/field. To this point we have had the opportunity as a community to celebrate with our girls varsity volleyball team as they have clinched a conference and district championship, and our boys high school football team who finished the regular season with a piece of the 275 conference title. Mrs. Palmer and the Rock Port Marching Band have had a tremendous fall season culminating with second place at the Trenton festival. We wish the cross country teams good luck this weekend at districts.
Over the past week DESE released the 2015-16 state assessment results. The scores below represent students that were in grades 3 – 12 last year. Students in the state of Missouri are assessed in language arts and mathematics every year in grades 3 through 8. Students in 5th and 8th grade are also tested in science. Our students in high school are assessed after the completion of Algebra 1, English 2, Biology and Government. There are four categories of achievement for each assessment (Below Basic, Basic, Proficient and Advanced). Below you will see the percentage of students scoring proficient or advanced.
Language Arts – 83.6% scored proficient or advanced
Math – 72.6% scored proficient or advanced
Science – 71.6% scored proficient or advanced
Social Studies – 100% scored proficient or advanced
As you can see, our students continue our tradition of excellence in the classroom. I want to thank our community for your continued support. I want to thank our teachers for their dedication to the youth of our community and I want to thank the students of Rock Port for continuing to exceed our expectations. It’s a great day to be a Blue Jay!.
