Anyone that has been voting at Bank Midwest in Rock Port will now vote at the Velma Houts Building, 201 East Highway 136 in Rock Port beginning with the November 8th election and each election in the future. This change is due to the need for additional space.
Voters will enter through the side door at the Velma Houts Building on Tuesday, November 8th, where they will be welcomed by the judges and lots of space to vote and cast their ballots. Look for the VOTE HERE sign along Highway 136 just east of Casey’s and signs on the door showing where to enter.
Parking is available along the side and in back of the building, but there will be no electioneering allowed on the entire property. This is a condition for the use of this facility. Anyone found in violation will be reported.
Additional planning is being made to handle the large turnout that is expected when you enter the poll that will make things run smoother and faster. At Rock Port, Tarkio and Fairfax, there will be two (2) complete poll books where you can present your ID, check your address, sign in and then proceed to get your ballot. Books will not be divided by alphabet, so you can go to the shortest line. Your preparation ahead of time before entering the polls will also keep things moving at the poll. This will be a two (2) sided ballot due to all of the issues. If you will review the sample ballot in the paper, as well as study the issues ahead of time and know how you would like to vote on each one, you will be able to spend less time at the polling location. The sample ballot is printed in all three (3) papers and is available online at acmoelections.org.
Another reminder to everyone, in the world of social media, it is illegal in the state of Missouri to snap a selfie of yourself with your ballot at the poll and post it.
If you will be out of county on Election Day you can vote in my office at the Atchison County Courthouse during regular business hours, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office will also be open from 8:00 a.m. – Noon on Saturday, November 5th.
Atchison County Clerk Susette Taylor would like to thank Bank Midwest for the years of use of their facility and is looking forward to the additional space provided by the new location at the Velma Houts Building.
