Georgia Houghton hired as part-time police officer
A special meeting of the Tarkio Board of Aldermen was held at 6 p.m. on Monday, October 17, 2016, at Tarkio City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Andrew Riley, Tarkio Board of Aldermen President/Mayor Pro-tem. Roll call was done by City Clerk Becky Jones: aldermen Mike Klosek, Scott Poppa, Ed Hunkins, and Andy Riley were all present.
Mayor Pro-tem Riley asked the board to make an appointment for an Interim Mayor until the next General Election, April 4, 2017. Poppa made a motion to appoint Timothy Morehouse. The motion was seconded and approved. The first day for candidate filing for the April 4, 2017, General Municipal Election is December 13, 2016, and the last day to file is January 17, 2017. Tarkio will be electing an alderman from the North Ward and an alderman from the South Ward. Each one will serve two year terms. A one year unexpired term for the Mayor position will also be on the ballot.
The aldermen voted to move the monthly regular meetings to Wednesdays until further notice. They also voted to have the meetings begin at 6:00 p.m. until further notice.
Many calls have been received about reserving spots at the Sycamore R-V Park in Tarkio. The consensus of the board is that if someone wants to rent a spot they must start paying the rent the day they come in or call.
The meeting moved into executive session. Discussion was held. The meeting moved back into regular session. Poppa made a motion to hire Georgia Houghton as part-time police officer and allow her $15.00 per hour. The motion and the second were approved and Houghton was hired. The meeting was adjourned. The next regular meeting will be Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at 6:00 p.m.
