A rash of long hair worn by boys has caused Rock Port R-2 school authorities to send between 35 and 70 students to the local barbershops for haircuts.
It has been the policy of the school for the last 20 or 30 years that students shall appear in presentable dress and presentable hair cuts or styles. This has been carried out, according to superintendent Dalyrmple, over the years numbers have varied from 10 to a dozen being sent home each year because of long hair or too short of skirts.

November 11, 1976
Don Lininger, a member of the Rock Port Volunteer Fire Department for 21 years, was elected fire chief at an election of officers for 1977 on November 9.
Lininger, who has served as first assistant fire chief for several years has been the acting chief since the death of Chief Darrell Greeg Oct. 14.

November 13 , 1986
It is nice to see another business open up in Rock Port. The welcome mat is going out to Steve and Dee Pierce of Rock Port who will be the new proprietors of Steve & Dee’s tavern and grill at 314 S. Main Street. They will have the usual favorite hamburger and french fries plus, they will be featuring a daily special which will range from sloppy joes to roast beef.

November 9, 2006
General Manager Ron Hunter retires after 33 years. Ron Hunter started his 33 year career with Atchison-Holt Electric on February 12, 1973. He was hired as a groundman and held that position for two years, apprentice lineman five years, journeyman lineman three years, and service foreman four years. He became general manager of the cooperative which he has held for the past 20 years.
