Alan Richard Ryan, age 62, of St. Peters, Missouri, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016, at St. Joseph Health Center in St. Charles, Missouri. He was born in Clarinda, Iowa, on March 5, 1954; the son of George and Margaret Steck Ryan.
Alan attended St. Mary’s Special School sponsored by the Archdiocese of St. Louis Special Education Program and graduated in May 1971. He was employed by Boone Center Workshop in O’Fallon and St. Peters facilities for over 35 years.
After retiring, Alan volunteered weekly at the Lonning Center in St. Charles. He also volunteered at other organizations throughout the years, including The Salvation Army, Old New Boys Day, Meals on Wheels, as well as various churches throughout the community.
Alan became a resident of St. Peters House in 1979 under the Community Living Program established in St. Charles County. Not only did Alan live there, he also assisted with the weekly grocery shopping and running errands for the house.
Alan was an avid follower of all the St. Louis sports teams and the Missouri Tigers. He enjoyed bowling and visiting the Rec-Plex. He also enjoyed Sunny Hill Summer Camp each summer, along with his yearly family reunion in June and holidays in Kansas City with his brother and family.
Alan is survived by his loving brothers, William Ryan and Phil (Gail) Ryan; his loving niece, Ashley (Dan) Maximuk and their children, Madison and Ryan Maximuk; and his loving nephew, George Ryan.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at 11:00 a.m at Alternative Funeral & Cremation Services, 2115 Parkway Dr., St. Peters. Graveside memorial service and inurnment will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 14, 2016, at Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
