The Tarkio/Fairfax/Westboro Food Pantry Board met Monday, November 7, with 15 members and one guest present. Churches represented were Assembly of God, St. Paul’s Catholic, First Christian, and Presbyterian from Tarkio; Baptist, Methodist, and Presbyterian from Fairfax; and Westboro Methodist Church and St. John’s Lutheran Church.
In September, 49 families representing 89 individuals were served. In October, 49 families representing 101 individuals were assisted.
In the month of December, coupons for hams will be distributed according to the size of the families. One to three members will receive a coupon for half of a ham. For families with four or more, a coupon for a whole ham will be given. Clients must take the coupons to the Tarkio Hy-Vee to be redeemed.
Recertification will begin in November. Clients must take the new paperwork to Community Services to be completed. Forms are due back by January 1, 2017.
The holidays are nearing and the dates the Food Pantry will be open are changing in the months of November and December. In November, the food pantry will be open Thursdays, November 10 and 17, and Tuesday, November 15, from 9 to 11 a.m. The Tarkio First Christian Church will be responsible for opening the Food Pantry in November.
In December, the Assembly of God Church and the Food Pantry Board members will open the Food Pantry. It will be open Tuesdays, December 13 and 20, and Thursdays, December 15 and 22, from 9 to 11 a.m. The food pantry will also be open Tuesday evening, December 13, from 7 to 8 p.m.
The next board meeting will be January 10, 2017. St. Paul’s Catholic Church will be responsible for opening the Food Pantry in January. A reminder that if schools are closed due to inclement weather, the Food Pantry will also be closed. The Food Pantry is located at 415 Main Street in Tarkio.
