Eunice C. (Bast) Henn passed away in Auburn, Alabama, 15 days short of her 102nd birthday. She was born November 22, 1914, to David and Ora (Harper) Bast of College Springs, Iowa. She graduated from Amity High School and lettered all four years in basketball. She married Charles Henn in 1937 and they farmed two miles west of Blanchard, Iowa.
She became a member of Blanchard United Methodist Church and was active in the Methodist Women’s Ministries. She was also a member of the State Line Club and after it disbanded a couple years ago, remained in touch with her friends when she moved to Shenandoah, Iowa, in 1998 due to her husband’s failing health. He died in 1999. Eunice moved to Auburn this past summer.
Eunice enjoyed gardening and flowers. She is remembered as having common sense and a sense of humor. She was organized and direct in all her dealings. Her memories were very clear, marveling often at the changes time had wrought. She enjoyed watching girls’ high school basketball tournaments on television and kept abreast of the news – world, political and locally. Eunice enjoyed reading and having friends of the library visit and bring her books.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister, Blanche Edwards; and two brothers, Arthur and Donald. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn, and husband, Bob Schafer, and granddaughter, Lisa; special friend, Judy Bengston; nieces, Elaine Whitehill, Beverly Clinkingbeard, and Katherine Clark; and other close friends and relatives.
