The Fairfax Playground Committee is in the process of raising $30,000 to purchase new equipment for the school playground. The committee has hosted several fundraisers and is currently planning a “Homes of the Past” Christmas tour of homes.
Fairfax Daisy Troop #61 took a trip to Fairfax City Hall November 7, and observed the election in process. Daisy Scouts are Jaycee Graves, Jesse Graves, Morgan O’Riley, Katy Baker, Shelbey Morris, Jordan Smith, Jentry Freemyer, Kaylee Bennett, Kinley Thornhill, and Shanna Gilpin. Election workers on duty were Dolores Hawkins, Mary Anne Pennel, Nancy VanGundy, and Sharon Clark.

Helen Golden will open a new yarn shop in Fairfax. Helen’s Place will open on December 2 in the building occupied by Kitty’s Sewing Basket.
Hunter’s advertised the following “Thanksgiving Feast of Values” – turkey, 59¢ per pound; stuffing mix, $1.29; cranberry sauce, 69¢; pumpkin pie, $2.99; and Cool Whip, 99¢.
County and state officers were dispatched to the Jack Vernon residence November 13. A South Dakota man had fired several rounds in the house, causing minor damage to interior walls and cabinets. He was taken into custody, but no one else was found at the residence.
The Atchison County Highway Department has erected a new equipment storage shed at the east edge of Fairfax.

Betty Ball was named FFA sweetheart and Jerry Harbin was named FHA favorite fellow at the annual barnwarming.
Bridget VanGundy was crowned Carnival Queen at the Fairfax High School Carnival Saturday night. The carnival was sponsored by the student council. Other queen candidates were Terry Swackhamer, Judy Schooler, Candy Smith, Cindy Davis, and Marcia Graves.
The Fairfax Methodist Church will celebrate its 50th Dedication Anniversary Sunday, November 20.
Newell D. Green, senior rural mail carrier on the Fairfax routes, was recently awarded a certificate for 36 years safe driving from the National Safety Council.
Fairfax football players named to the 275 Conference Football All-Conference team were Gary Hawkins, Sheldon Davis, and Mike Smith. Fairfax players receiving honorable mention were Scott Hawkins, Steve Harrington, Larry Schlachter, and Ivan Kent.
