Rep. Hardin C. Cox, Democrat, Rock Port, won the State Representative race for the 78th district by 32 votes over Rep. Fred R. Maughmer, Jr., Republican, Savannah, after six days of anxious waiting for the counting of the absentee ballots in the three counties of Andrew, Holt and Atchison.

The city of Rock Port was awarded a $17, 142 federal matching grant Tuesday for the development of two tennis courts at Memorial Park. The grant was awarded by the State Inter-Agency Council for Outdoor Recreation (SIACOR).

The Atchison County Library headquarters in Rock Port is holding a grand opening Sunday, Nov. 23 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at their newly remodeled library at 200 S. Main The Library Board and the Friends of the Library will host the celebration.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class James R. Muntz has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Muntz is a 1993 Graduate of Rock Port High School and the son of Angela Muntz, Rock Port.
