The East Atchison Jr. High Girls’ Basketball Team competed in the 275 Conference Tournament last week. The Lady Wolves played hard and brought home the championship trophy.
The girls played their first game of the tournament in Burlington Junction, Missouri, on Saturday, December 3, 2016. The EA Lady Wolves defeated West Nodaway 42-11. Morgan Parshall led the Lady Wolves with 15 points (one out of two free throws). She was followed by Brynnan Poppa with 12, Bryli Staten with five (one for one on free throws), and Sophia Martin, Olivia Morris, Ella Rolf, Mercedes Parshall, and Alexis Brown with two each.
The Lady Wolves won their semifinal game against Platte Valley 37-13. Mercedes Parshall led EA with 18 points (two three-pointers), followed by Morgan Parshall with eight, Brynnan Poppa with seven (one three-pointer), and Cheyenne Gray and Autumn Murry with two points each.
The Lady Wolves claimed the conference championship with a 37-11 win over South Holt. Morgan Parshall led EA with 15 points, followed by Brynnan Poppa with 10, Mercedes Parshall with six (one three-pointer), Jayden Van Zant with three (one three-pointer), Cheyenne Gray with two, and Autumn Murry with one.
The Lady Wolves were undefeated this season, winning 15 games. This was the first time there’s been a 275 Conference Jr. High Basketball Tournament so it was a great way to end the season being the first team to clinch the title. They also won the South Holt Tournament. Coach Dustin Barnes said, “This was a very fun group of girls to coach this year. They worked extremely hard and had a great attitude every day. Coach Aksamit and Coach Dowis were tremendous to work with as well. It will be fun watching these girls play over the next few years!”
