I have had the privilege of being the editor of the Fairfax Forum for the past five years. The weekly task of compiling the news of the community and surrounding area, arranging the advertisements on the pages, and putting the pieces of the puzzle together to form the pages of the newspaper has been my responsibility and my pleasure.
Many of you have helped provide information for news articles, and I thank you for all your help. And while my goal was to create a newspaper that was accurate, I have had to admit to my fair share of errors. To quote Alexander Pope: “To err is human…” I appreciate your tolerance.
The Fairfax Forum has reported on school and community events, births, weddings, graduations, and other milestones. But not all news has been good news. There have been reports of businesses closing, tragic accidents, and deaths. Sometimes the news was so scarce I wondered how the pages were ever going to get filled, and then there were weeks there was so much news that some had to be carried over to the following issue. It always worked out.
Fairfax is a small town with a strong sense of community. Annual events such as the Fairfax Fair, Light Night, and the Kiwanis Corn Yield Contest have a long history in the town. New homes are being built, and a new organization, the Fairfax Improvement Foundation, is “working together to improve the community we love.”
Next week, the entire county (and beyond) will share in the history and the future and the news of Fairfax, Missouri, in the pages of the Atchison County Mail.
