McAdams marks 30th year at Northwest Missouri Industries- Mary McAdams has been in the Atchison County area her whole life. She grew up in Tarkio and, after graduating from Tarkio High School, continued her education at Tarkio College. After graduating in 1986, Mary began her work at Northwest Industries. Currently, Mary serves as the manager at Northwest Industries and takes on the responsibility of keeping the business up and running. This entails many tasks such as dealing with financials, managing the staff, and finding jobs for those in need.

Davis retires from R.P.F.D. after 30 years- After 30 years Elmer Davis has retired from the Rock Port and West Atchison Fire Departments. When Elmer came on in 1985, Junior Hudson was the Chief. In his 30 years protecting the west side of Atchison County Elmer responded to over 1,075 calls and served as Secretary and Treasurer for 25 years.

Pleasant View Nursing Home earned 5-Stars in their overall rating by CMS- Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, MO was notified that they have earned 5-Stars in their Overall rating under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) program, Five-Star Quality Rating System. Achieving 5-Stars in an Overall rating is the highest designation possible under the system. CMS implemented the Five-Star Quality Rating System for consumers, their families, and caregivers to compare nursing homes more easily and to help identify areas about which you may want to ask questions. The Nursing Home Compare Web site features a quality rating system that gives each nursing home a rating of between 1 and 5 stars. Nursing homes with 5 stars are considered to have much above average quality.

Tarkio High School student arrested for bringing handgun to school- At approximately 9:38 a.m., on February 11, 2016, Tarkio High School officials were made aware of a student possibly possessing ammunition on school property. School officials contacted the student and escorted him to a secure location in the high school and contacted the Tarkio Police Department. Upon arrival of the Tarkio Police Department, officers located a handgun in the student’s backpack, at which time he was taken into custody and the school placed on lockdown. Officers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Tarkio Police Department, and the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office conducted a protective sweep of the school and the school was taken off lockdown. The suspect, 19 year-old Michael Knoth, was taken to the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office in Rock Port, Mo. His vehicle was towed from the scene by Top Secret Towing of Tarkio.
Knoth has been charged with unlawful use of weapon – subsection 10 – carries loaded weapon into school, bus, premises, function {Felony D RSMo: 571.030}; and making terrorist threats with reckless disregard of, risk of, causing the evacuation or closure of any portion of a building, inhabitable structure, place of assembly or facility of transportation {Felony D RSMo: 574.115}.

Marr retires from C.A.R.E.- The members of the Board of C.A.R.E. of Atchison County invite members of the community to an Open House reception honoring advocate Sandra Marr on Monday, February 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. at C.A.R.E. House in Rock Port.
Sandy is retiring after ten years of personal involvement in caring and assisting clients. She has made a beneficial difference in many lives, and will be very much missed.
