D.G. “Skeeter” Moreland, the son of William D. and Grace (Weaver) Moreland, was born December 6, 1936, in St. Charles, Missouri. He attended schools in the St. James, Missouri, area. Skeeter enlisted in the United States Navy on May 3, 1954, and was stationed in Japan for a short time. He received his honorable discharge on May 2, 1962.
On June 5, 1985, Skeeter was united in marriage to Judy Chard in Rock Port, Missouri, where they made their home to the present time. Skeeter owned and operated Moreland Logging for over 50 years. In the mid 1970’s, Skeeter purchased the Rock Port Army Store where he sold surplus items and clothing for ten years.
Skeeter enjoyed gardening with Judy, traveling, playing cards, fishing with Ransom, Brogan and Mikaila and most especially playing with his grandkids and great grandkids. He also enjoyed drinking coffee daily at Our Place with all his close friends. Skeeter passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at Bryan LGH Medical Center East, Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 80.
In addition to his parents, Skeeter was preceded in death by sisters, Judy Faye Moreland, June Gardner, Novella Bullock; brothers, Carl Moreland, Joe Moreland and Paul Moreland. Survivors include wife, Judy, Rock Port; children, Dawn Lair, Omaha, Nebraska, Christopher (Cristina) Chard, St. Joseph, Missouri, and Shelly (Bert) Martinez, Troy, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Trystan (Maggie) Lair, Brogan (Mikaila) Lair, Ransom (Rachel) Lair, Payton (Jacob) Lair, Kylie Silcott, Kendrew Chard, Alyssa Martinez, Mikaela (Ryan) Ascheman and Crystal Parsons; eight great grandchildren, Kinley, Kamryn, Dylan, Addison, Piper, Sylas, Addilyn and Azura; sisters, Brenda (Ed) Scaggs, St. James, Carol (Nick) Ritz, Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, Janet (Jim) Eyman, Vichy, Missouri; brothers, Larry Moreland, Steelville, Missouri, Max Moreland, St. James, Charles Moreland, Belle Vernon; and son-in-law, David (Kathy) Lair.
No visitation or memorial services will be held at this time. Memorials may be directed to the D.G. “Skeeter” Moreland Memorial Fund.
