A funeral service for Charlene Marie Volker of Tarkio was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio. Interment was held at Home Cemetery, Tarkio. Reverend Glenn Scott officiated. Services were under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.
Charlene, the daughter of Charles “Jr” and Theona “Toni” (McAdams) Jones, was born on August 21, 1948, in Maryville, Missouri, minutes before her twin brother, Charley. She attended school in Tarkio, graduating in 1966. Charlene attended Business School in Omaha, Nebraska. In 2003, she graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Northwest Technical School, Maryville, Missouri.
Charlene was blessed with two sons from her marriages. Brian and Kurt were her proudest accomplishments.
Besides spending many years as a homemaker, Charlene was employed as a secretary at Tarkio Pelleting for two years. For 15 years, she worked at Fosters Cleaners in Liberty, Missouri. After moving back to Atchison County, Charlene began working at North View Manor, where her mother was a resident. Charlene then went back to school and received her LPN license. During her time as a practical nurse, she was employed at North View Manor Nursing Home in Tarkio and Pleasant View Nursing Home in Rock Port, Missouri.
Charlene was a member of the Tarkio United Methodist Church and the Allen-Schiffern American Legion Auxiliary #199, Tarkio. Charlene passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care, Tarkio, at the age of 68.
In addition to her parents, Charlene was preceded in death by sister, Sharon Jones Cook. Survivors include sons, Brian (Carmen) Vance, Kearney, Missouri, and Kurt (Christine Warren) Volker, Denver, Colorado; grandson, Spencer Vance; granddaughter, Walden Vance; brother, Charley (Sharon) Jones, Tarkio; sister, Patti (Mark) Pearson, Malvern, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
