Voters of the Rock Port R-2 school district will once again go to the polls to vote in a special election Jan. 24 for a .30 levy to determine if the district should issue $530,000 in bonds for the purpose of purchasing a site and erecting and furnishing an elementary school building.

January 20 , 1977
Frances Taylor, an ambulance driver for the Rock Port area, received a paramedics degree in the fifth graduation class of Mobile Emergency Medical Paramedic Technicians Dec. 9. This degree enables Mrs. Taylor to give shots and emergency treatment under a doctor’s direction.

January 15, 1987
Casey’s General Store in Rock Port recently finished their remodeling project. Their pizza and bakery operations began last week, and Marie Catlett, manager, reports approximately 250 pizzas were sold to local pizza lovers in the first four days.

January 16, 1997
Betty McCall recently retired on December 31, 1996 after a total of 30 years of faithful service for the Atchison-Holt Electric Co-op. Betty began working for the Co-op shortly after it was established on Main Street in Rock Port. She worked as Secretary for Manager Mr. Gibbs in the beginning. She has since worked for every manager in the Co-op.

Melissa Mitchell, a 2002 graduate of Tarkio High School, daughter of Chris and Lorie Hall, and Randy and Janet Mitchell, of Tarkio, Mo., graduated from the University of Central Missouri, formerly Central Missouri State University, in Warrensburg, Mo., on December 16, 2006. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She has accepted a position with Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., where she will be practicing as a registered nurse on the renal/rehabilitation/orthopedics floor.
