On January 18, 2017 the City of Rock Port received verbal notice that the City’s burn pile, located off of US Hwy. 136 behind the water tower, must be shut down effective immediately. The Department of Natural Resources met with City Superintendent Trevor Hale to discuss the current burn pile. Following several complaints, the DNR has revoked the city’s permit for burning.
On June 14, 2016 the City received a letter of warning from DNR which stated they were in violation of the Missouri Air Conservation regulation 10 CSR 10-6.045, Open Burning Requirements. Non-compliant issues include:

• Violating the conditions of burn permit FY16-816, specifically, the fire was still smoldering on May 25, 2016 when the fire was originally lit on May 19, 2016. The permit requires the fire to start no earlier than 7 a.m. and be put out no later than 5 p.m. of that same day.
Following this letter, gates were added to control access points an additional camera was installed to help monitor illegal dumping, and hours for dumping were established.
Along with establishing hours for dumping.
The city was put on notice that if they were found in violation of their burn permit again that it would be revoked.
Currently the compost site will remain open as long as it is not abused. ONLY yard waste can be taken to the compost site, NO woody material.
