Helen McCartney Roberson Hunter was born July 31, 1919, to Ella McCartney Roberson and Berlie L. Roberson in a farm home in Atchison County, Missouri. She attended country school and graduated from Rock Port High School. Helen attended Christian College in Columbia, Missouri, for two years, and graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. Helen taught country school at Lone Cedar for several years. She married Marion Hunter in 1945. They lived on the family farm in Langdon, Missouri. She was active in the Lutheran Church in Langdon and later First Lutheran in Rock Port. She was a member of PEO and DAR, and she enjoyed playing bridge with her friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, H.O., and her husband, Marion. She is survived by twin daughters, Sandy (Robb) Cole of Clearwater, FL; Cindy (Hubert) Roine of Tucson, AZ; and her niece, Linda Roberson (Gary Young) and her family.
Helen lived most of her life in Atchison County, but she also lived in Lincoln, NE; Clearwater Beach, FL; and most recently in Tucson, AZ. She passed away at home in Tucson on January 8, 2017, at the age of 97.
Helen was adored by her 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was the family matriarch. She taught us how to live, and we will miss her so much.
A family graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Hunter Cemetery.
