Two pink rain boots were passed around the gymnasium Friday night with a friendly wager tied to their monetary outcome. Rich Dewhirst and Steve Klute, respective Board of Education Presidents of Rock Port and Tarkio Schools, agreed that if their team’s crowd donated the most money they would don the hat of the opposite school during the 2nd half of the ballgame. Amazingly enough, it was a tie and both men were good sports for the remainder of the evening.

The Rock Port gym was full on Friday evening as Rock Port and East Atchison played conference basketball. It could have been the rivalry games or even Rock Port’s Homecoming that caused the gymnasium to be full, but that wasn’t the case. The reality was that even with rival teams playing, the communities of Atchison County came together to help show love and support for Lisa Yates. Lisa was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and just last week underwent a double mastectomy.
Friday night’s mixed community involvement was amazing as friends and family of Lisa held an auction, passed around donation boots and sold Team Yates t-shirts. You can still buy your Team Yates t-shirt at A Perfect 10 in Rock Port. Between the fans for East Atchison and Rock Port there were a lot of cancer kicking, Lisa Yates supporters as $5,950 was raised to help Lisa and her family. Way to go Atchison County!
