A one hundred million dollar atomic energy power plant will be constructed three miles south of Brownville, Neb., on the Missouri River across from Atchison County to be completed in 1972.

Atchison County fire departments ranked “extremely high” in a survey concerning adequate fire protection given to persons in the Northwest Missouri area, according to National Fire Prevention and Control Administration (NFPCA) agents meeting with Rock Port fire chief Don Lininger Jan. 21. One of the statistics showed that 52 percent of the people in Atchison County do not think their fire protection services could be improved.

Lyndia Schomburg, manager of This N’ That Gifts and Flowers in Rock Port, has been chosen by Stuppy’s Floral & Supply in St. Joseph, Mo., to be the next guest design instructor for their Valentine design show, the 29th of January. Lyndia will be sharing her ten years of experience and artistic talents with many other florists, giving them ideas and tips on Valentine arrangements.

The new and qualified peer counselors are Lacy Carlson, Regan Griffin, Katy Hecker, Adam Meyerkorth, Stephanie Shandy, and Jeff Wyatt. The new sixthgrade peer counselors were selected through a student vote and a teacher/staff recommendations.

Rock Port, Tarkio and Fairfax High School Bands held a concert on Monday, January 22, 2007 in honor of Atchison County Band Day. Every year, the schools get together to learn new songs and to hold a concert led by a guest conductor. This year the guest conductor was Carl Kling, Northwest Missouri State University’s Director of Bands.
