The Rock Port Center has a welcoming atmosphere with good food at an affordable price. It is a place to visit with friends and possibly enjoy a card game. The center is located next to the park and has had many helpful volunteers pass through its doors. One of those volunteers is Wilma Davis, who has been helping the center since 2000. Wilma’s favorite part about volunteering is counting the money. Wilma and multiple other volunteers used to help wash dishes, fill the salt and pepper, and set the table. Place settings used to be set before guests would arrive, but due to the decrease in customers, there hasn’t been a need to do so. Wilma enjoys having a multitude of people attending the card games held at the center. Wilma expressed that she greatly enjoys the people who consistently come, but new faces change up the game.
The center has a wide variety of home-cooked meals to offer and is open to the public. A few of the favorites from customers are the spaghetti, roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy, homemade lasagna, fried chicken, and meat loaf. One unique aspect at the center is that every meal is served with a dessert such as peach cobbler, strawberry shortcake or apple crisp. Each meal costs $8.00 for anyone under the age of 60. Anyone who is 60 or older will be asked for a contribution. The Rock Port Center is open from 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The center can be reached by calling 1-660-744-5812.
