Heartland Recreation Center has a new director leading the programs and events at the Tarkio facility. Rachel Meyer of Tarkio will be taking over for Taurina Smith, who is moving to Kansas City with her family.
Rachel has been helping out at the gym since this past holiday season and is looking forward to stepping up to help. As director, Rachel will oversee the organization of classes and upkeep of the building, as well as memberships, assisting in hiring, introducing new programs, and working on the books. Right now, Rachel plans on maintaining the programs the Rec Center provides, including boot camp, yoga, young at heart circuit training, walk fit, and men’s weight training. There are also pick-up basketball games held on Sundays. Alex (Baruth) Jang, licensed sports nutritionist, will be hosting a nutrition class on February 21 from 5:30 to 6 p.m. There are also dance classes for kids and youth gymnastics begins February 6. Rachel said the Rec Center is also hosting a Talent Show March 4, at 7 p.m. Prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in dance, song comedy and miscellaneous acts will be awarded. There is a $10 registration per act. Contact HRC at 660-623-9182 or Regina Quimby at 712-370-2776 for more information about the Talent Show.
Rachel said she’s very excited to keep the facility running for everyone to enjoy.
