The Rock Port Park Board met on Monday, February 13, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. at the Rock Port Elementary School Library. Members present were Jill Lager, Katey Kroeger, Tisha Jackson, Lisa Farmer, Shauna Farmer and Greg Young. Also present was City Clerk Ashtin Paris.
Park Board President Lisa Farmer called the meeting to order.
Lisa Farmer moved to approve the meeting agenda. Jill Lager seconded. All votes aye.
Jill Lager moved to approve the December 14, 2016, meeting minutes. Shauna Farmer seconded. All votes aye.
Lisa Farmer moved to approve the December 2016 financials. Jill Lager seconded. All votes aye.
Jill Lager moved to approve the January 2017 financials. Katey Kroeger seconded. All votes aye.
The tennis courts surveys were reviewed. Shauna Farmer moved to fill the cracks in the tennis courts, repaint the courts, and divide the courts into one tennis court and one pickleball court. Katey Kroeger seconded. All votes aye. The park board discussed doing the work on the tennis courts themselves so the City crew can focus on getting the pool ready for the season. Greg Young offered to fill the cracks in the tennis courts. He will contact City Supt. Hale for the materials.
The board reviewed a letter from Libby Weber concerning the Rock Port Marlins swim team season and requested to hold swim meets. Lisa moved to approve swim meets for June 2017. Jill Lager seconded. All votes aye. Currently, $2,960.43 is available in the park board account that was donated for the Rock Port Marlins swim team.
Shauna Farmer reported that Craig Walker had spoken with her about the walk/bike path. The school purchased the property on Bluff St. and would like to add a community walk/bike path to the site. Park board members agreed the Bluff St. property would be an excellent site for the community walk/bike path.
Clerk Paris reported that Kelly Daugherty donated 10 flags to the park board to be displayed at the park during the 4th of July. Greg Young will pick up from flags from City Hall and take them to Steve Duren. The Boy Scouts are making the flag poles. Greg will also check on nylon bunting prices for the fences.
The next meeting will be held Monday, March 13, 2017, at 5:30 p.m. at the Rock Port Elementary School Library. The meeting may be held at the park if the weather is favorable. The park board requested City Superintendent Trevor Hale attend the meeting to give a brief update on the groundwater level for the pool and what is needed for the slide pad.
