Fairfax FFA Celebrates National FFA Week-

Wear green day- In celebration of National FFA Week, Fairfax students held dress-up days. Last Wednesday, the students wore green.
Chug! Chug! Chug!- Students participated in an apple juice chugging contest (drinking the juice from calf bottles) during National FFA Week (February 18-25).
Hard Boiled Egg or Raw?- An eggcellent activity had Fairfax students, including Ben Bohling, breaking eggs over their head to determine whether the eggs were raw or hard boiled during National FFA Week.
Tug of War- Teachers and students joined forces to put their strength to the test in a tug of war game during National FFA Week (February 18-25).
FFA Host Dinner- The Fairfax FFA Chapter held a dinner Sunday, February 26, 2017, at the school. The chapter held the dinner as part of their activities celebrating National FFA Week (February 18-25). Senior Spotlight Audrae Bates- By Kinley Thornhill
This week, the senior spotlight is Audrae Marie Bates. Audrae is 17 years old and plans to attend Peru State College for Graphic Design and minor in Marketing. Audrae is the daughter of Andrea Bates and Robert Bates, the granddaughter of Paula and Bill Ellingrud, and the sister to Willie Bates, who is 22.
Audrae’s favorite quote is “When one door is closed, don’t you know, another is open,” by Bob Marley. Her lowerclassmen advice is, “Sorry you can’t be me, but don’t be late.” Audrae says that her favorite memory was when Mason tried killing a bee in history with Dakota’s shoe and ended up throwing it out the window along with Goldie having to be thrown on the roof to retrieve the shoe. She also says she will miss the fact everyone will miss her. Audrae’s one and only nickname is Drae. Audrae plans to be a part of basketball or softball in college and live the dream of being a famous artist. “Art is life and I’m a baller, word.” – Drae Marie Bates.
Senior Spotlight Alyssa Garrison- By Andrew Gibbons
This week, the Senior Spotlight is Alyssa Christine Garrison. Alyssa is also known as Garrisonion, Weezy, Pumpkin, or Garebear. Alyssa is 18 years old and has two siblings, Zac who is 15 and Haley who is 13. Her parents are Doug and Angela Garrison. Alyssa’s grandparents are Don and Linda Corum and Charles and Joyce Garrison. She plans to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia where she plans to major in Physical Therapy. One thing she said that she’ll miss is being a part of a team, whether it’s with her class, volleyball, basketball, or track. Alyssa’s favorite memory is “Beating Caitlyn to the door before lunch every day.” She can be found wherever her friends are. Alyssa’s favorite quote is, “There is only one thing more precious than our time and that’s who we spend it with” – Unknown. Alyssa’s advice to underclassmen is “Don’t let opportunities pass you by. Take in every special moment spent with your friends, family, and teammates as if it’s your last. You’ll never know when it might actually be your last, nothing is guaranteed.” – Alyssa Christine Garrison
Senior Spotlight Michael Baker- By Andrew Gibbons
This week in the senior spotlight is Michael Wayne Baker. He is also known as Michael Jackson, Jr., Bake, and Baker. His parents are Ron and Trudy Baker. His grandparents are Darrell and Merylan Lowery and Bill and Sharon Hines. His only sibling is his sister, Katy, and she is 15. Michael plans on attending Northwest Tech School and majoring in EMT and First Responder. He hasn’t decided if he will do any activities in college or not. Michael can be found in Fairfax, around his community, serving as a Volunteer Firefighter and helping out any way that he can. One thing he will miss about high school is being able to march in the Fairfax High School Marching Pride Band. Michael’s favorite memory of high school is when Grant Hopkins scored the game winning shot from half court in the last Fairfax home basketball game to beat Tarkio 22-21. His favorite quote is “No matter what people tell you, ideas and words can change the world” – Unknown. Some advice he has for the underclassmen is “Don’t give up, if you have a goal go for it. Don’t let anyone tell you you’re not good enough or not able to achieve your goals. Strive for greatness with that you can handle.” – Michael Wayne Baker
Pep Band, Color Guard, Choir to perform at state- The Fairfax R-3 Pep Band, Color Guard, and Choir will be making an appearance at the Missouri High School State Basketball Championships. The three Fairfax organizations will be performing Friday, March 10: Pep Band – before the 4:15 p.m., 6:00 p.m., and 7:45 p.m. games (during team warm ups); Color Guard – half time of the 6:00 p.m. game and 7:45 p.m. game; and Choir – before the 4:15 p.m., 6:00 p.m., and 7:45 p.m. games.
