It is never too late to join and continue your support of the Atchison County Memorial Building. The 14th annual meeting of the Atchison County Memorial Building Foundation (ACMBF), members and any interested individuals will be Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. in the Atchison County Memorial Building, Rock Port. During the annual meeting 3 persons will be elected or re-elected to the Board of Directors. The board members whose terms will be expiring and are up for re-election are: 1. Kelly Daugherty – Rock Port school district; 2. Debbie Martin – Tarkio school district and 3. Marilyn Reed – Fairfax school district. The term for the newly elected Board of Directors is three years. The Board has remained the same for several years. Any current or new members are welcome to run for a Board Member position the day of the meeting. The regular monthly meeting will immediately follow the annual meeting. The public is invited to attend. Refreshments will be served. Volunteers devote their time and energy to make the ACMBF a success. The foundation must rely on memberships, rental income, and your donations to cover expenses. The expenses vary each year, but you can rest assured they go up. Last year expenses were approximately $20,000. Many local organizations and groups holding benefits are allowed to use the building “rent free”. The building is to be used and enjoyed by all generations of the county now and in the future. It is never too late to join and continue your support of the Atchison County Memorial Building, the Liberty Theatre and the Walk of Honor. Individual memberships are $15 per person or $30 a couple and business memberships are $100. The Walk of Honor has three sizes of blank granite bricks that can be purchased to honor loved ones or your family. A certificate suitable for framing with the inscription you choose will be included. Bricks make great gifts for birthdays, Veterans Day, and Christmas. Brick orders are usually inscribed in the spring and fall. Profits from the brick sales go toward the maintenance and replacement of items needed for the Walk of Honor. The current cost of inscribing a brick is: 4” x 8”, $250; 8”x 8”, $450; and 16”x 16”, $1,200. There is a directory of bricks on-site. For more brick information call Elaine Eilers at (660) 744-5366. Please don’t forget to support this historical Atchison County building either by purchasing a membership or donating and keeping your money local.
