The Northwest Missouri Sportsman’s Club will be sponsoring check stations for youth turkey season. The check station will be located at the Fairfax Community Building at west end of Main Street in Fairfax and in Mound City (vacant lot east of Mound City Lumber)on April 8th & 9th from 7:30 – 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. until dark. You may also stop by and call during the hours that are not manned and someone will meet you. Bring your harvested turkey by to get it weighed and measured along with pictures for the paper. There will be prizes given away for the longest beard award and longest spur award as well as random drawings. There will also be a grand prize to be revealed at the check station.
The NMSC has collaborated with the local FFA chapters so you will see some new faces at the check station this year. Additionally, the local FFA chapters and NMSC will be rotating the youth turkey and deer check stations between Rock Port, Tarkio and Fairfax going forward so please look for our ads and information. Also changing this year is any youth with a valid turkey tag can stop by the check station for a door prize, whether they have successfully harvested a turkey or not. Hunters who have harvested a turkey are eligible for the grand prize and longest beard/spur prizes.
The check station has been successful in years past and we hope to build on that this year with the new changes and the assistance from the FFA chapters. Please stop by the check station April 8 and 9 at the Fairfax Community Building, be safe in the woods and good luck to all of the youth hunters!
