What would have been a normal traffic stop turned into a high speed chase, wreck, and confiscation of over 20 pounds of marijuana 14 miles south of Mound City, Missouri, at 1:40 p.m. March 26, 2017. Around 1:35 p.m., a state trooper attempted to stop a southbound Dodge Charger on I-29. The driver, Charles E. Jones of Denver, Colorado, did not pull over a pursuit took place. Jones lost control of his vehicle, driving into the median, back onto the roadway, and then overcorrecting, crashing into a guardrail 3 miles north of Craig. He was taken into custody and transported by Atchison-Holt Ambulance Service to Mosaic Hospital in St. Joseph for injuries sustained from the crash. The vehicle was searched and troopers discovered the vehicle contained 26 pounds of marijuana. Jones was charged with Possession Of A Controlled Substance With Intent To Distribute.
The scene was investigated by Trooper K.L. Ebersold, who was assisted by Sgt. L.M. Allen, Corporal S.M. Hux, Trooper K.H. Davis, Trooper D.W. Jehnzen, the Holt County Sheriff’s Department, and the Atchison-Holt Ambulance Service.
This is the third marijuana seizure made from vehicles traveling on I-29 in northwest Missouri in the last week. Twenty pounds of marijuana were confiscated from a driver from California on March 23 and 47 pounds of marijuana and two handguns were confiscated from four individuals from Washington and Florida on March 22. All individuals were arrested and charged.
